The Arsenal Academy:

Arsenal over the years have trained and produced some of the best talents in English football without a doubt! that’s a testament to the world class scouts and training programme that they have to hand, not to mention their hold on world football. With big money signings in the 16/17 summer transfer window Granit Xhaka, Alexander Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have recently joined one of the biggest teams in European football.

Arsenal have been at the forefront of English football since it very began, being known for their quick passing moves and silky touches, they bring a touch of class to a gritty English league. Having produced some of the greatest premier league goals, including the classic team goal against Norwich City which left the opposition in awe.

At our fantastic academy we try to bring young players up with the confidence to push out big signings, because in our experience English football has the biggest pool of talent in the world.

Arsenal Of Old

Arsenal centre-back Tony Adams, spent his whole career at Arsenal, starting from the youth academy through to being a regular starter at the club. He now has a statue just outside the stadium to commemorate his 22-year career. A lesson for all those youngsters who want to make their mark at a football club.

Andy Cole was also produced by the Arsenal academy and was one of the Premier Leagues most deadly strikers in front of the net. At age 18 Cole was already playing for the clubs academy team, despite being shy teammates re-assured him that he “had talent and would succeed if he got his head down and worked hard” and they couldn’t be more right.

At FootieBugs Academy, we give children the extra push that they need to succeed in football and carry them onto the next stage which is full-time football at an elite level.

But what about Arsenal Academy’s more recent success?

Academy star Reiss Nelson has had some recent paper talk and all for the right reasons. At just 18 years old, Nelson is a poster boy for those who want to make it at a professional level. Having already played in the F.A. Cup, Champions League and represented England, ex pro Martin Keown labelled him as “Messi-esque” which has given a lot of confidence to academy players after seeing what you can achieve at an early age.

One thing our Academy coaches have in common is that they have played at a professional level and know what it takes to have that cutting edge in the modern game. With our Academies guidance, we can point the players in the right direction and have had a number of kids go on to build special things at professional clubs.

Academy Staff:

Having an ex-pro as your head coach can always give you a tactical edge, Steve Gatting is one of them. Having played in multiple F.A. Cup finals and coming from a sporting family, with brother Mike as a professional Cricketer it shows his value in the sporting world. Steve is responsible for the training and overseeing of games, so he has one of the biggest responsibilities of the board. Gatting also has to keep a 23-man squad happy at all times, which means he has to be firm but fair.
Under-18’s coach Kwame Ampadu has a very important job at the club as he oversees who will go from the under 18’s squad through to the senior development team. This is arguably the hardest job, as it means some players will make it and some will be unsuccessful. He has also played some of his footballing career at the club and has witnessed the rise and fall that Arsenal have gone through.

Under-14’s coach Greg Lincoln has been around the block at a number of different clubs, having started his professional career at Arsenal he had short stints at Northampton, Stevenage and Torquay United. He then rejoined Arsenal academy team in 2009 as he felt that he was more suited to coaching. Lincoln believes that he can turn these young players into creative, forward-thinking superstars.

How to get noticed by a scout

Generally, premier league clubs are closely following open trials as a way of pinpointing the newest talent, as well as having a vast network of scouts across the UK. Scouts are often preferential over structured leagues or with players of a high standard, playing together. This is one thing that FootieBugs academy can offer through our weekly training sessions and games against local teams managed by professional coaches. Because we cover a range of age groups at U6’s-U14’s we have a high demand for young upcoming talent and receive frequent scouts visiting our training sessions and matches. Due to the professional coaches we have available that have all played at a high level, we are able to distinguish which players are leagues above in terms of skill and can refer them onto Premier League clubs.

“If you’re good enough, generally they’ll find you.”

Arsenal Academy Scouting System:

After a scout has seen a player, they will usually contact them and invite them to a trial day, otherwise the more common method of finding talents from all over are through football trial days and football camps. FootieBugs goes the extra mile in making your job easier as a parent and a young footballer. With our focused training sessions, the FootieBugs Academy will try it’s best to match your ability with a club who will nurture your talent . We will shape a football player into a footballer, by working on improving the child’s overall game and their image to scouts at Premier League Clubs.

This is where the FootieBugs Academy thrives, not only will FootieBugs look to put players forward to Arsenal when they feel they are ready, but FootieBugs will also ensure that Arsenal will be fully aware of what training each player will have received from the FootieBugs Academy and why the player has shown enough (Footballing skill as well as dedication and attitude) to be worthy of a trial.
