The Chelsea Academy:

Chelsea’s development squad are always making waves in the sporting industry and that’s the reason they are a feared club. They are always in and around the top 4 even across 3 different age groups. The “Premier-league 2” was introduced back in 2016/17 season to try and improve the quality of football at youth level which has benefited clubs like Chelsea who are now able to be tested at the highest level.

In the past we have seen young players flourish playing first team football and have gone on to do great things, players like Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Daniel Sturridge all started their professional careers at Chelsea. However, these players all had to overcome obstacles in their career which is what experienced Chelsea coaches can help with.

At FootieBugs Academy, we can tell straight away those who shine from the rest and we can nurture their development very closely. We cannot guarantee that your child will have the same ability as the players above but we will give them the best chance.

Academy Of Old

John Terry is a classic example of what Chelsea are able to create out of their academy. Terry has been described as a world class defender and leader by many who have left the game and cost Chelsea absolutely nothing. Our coaches believe that this sort of talent is achievable and have seen similar style defenders upcoming from our training sessions.

But what about Chelsea’s more recent success

Chelsea have a number of incredible academy graduates to choose from,  but one player that hasn’t moved very far from home is Bournemouth skipper Nathan Ake. Ake was a fan favourite at Chelsea but left to get some more game time at lower league club Bournemouth. Since leaving, his price tag has continued to rise and he hasn’t even reached his peak yet!

At FootieBugs we believe that Ake showed maturity to leave a big team which is something we pride our coaches on teaching young players in today’s game.

Academy Staff:

Jody Morris is no stranger to success, his stories at Chelsea show that he can guide the team to success even in the most unlikely circumstances. After beating Manchester City back-to-back to win the FA Cup in 2015/16 coupled with his sides treble victory in the Youth Cup, he is not short of silverware and will most likely go up the ranks as the years progress.
Under-16’s coach Jon Harley began his career at Chelsea after advancing the academy ranks. This means he knows how the Chelsea academy have always operated and now has the change to develop it himself and keep up with leading teams like Arsenal, Liverpool etc. Harley has also seen silverware with his time at Chelsea winning the F.A. Cup in 2000 and can pass on his experiences to these young, impressionable players.
James Simmonds, the Under-15’s coach has had a very reputable career throughout his time in football. Having coached the Under-19’s Republic of Ireland team, he can give the younger squad some upward thinking and improvement. this can help the players in the long-run because Simmonds has seen players before them grow.

How to get noticed by a scout

Generally, premier league clubs are closely following open trials as a way of pinpointing the newest talent, as well as having a vast network of scouts across the UK. Scouts are often preferential over structured leagues or with players of a high standard, playing together. This is one thing that FootieBugs academy can offer through our weekly training sessions and games against local teams managed by professional coaches. Because we cover a range of age groups at U6’s-U14’s we have a high demand for young upcoming talent and receive frequent scouts visiting our training sessions and matches. Due to the professional coaches we have available that have all played at a high level, we are able to distinguish which players are leagues above in terms of skill and can refer them onto Premier League clubs.

“If you’re good enough, generally they’ll find you.”

Chelsea Academy Scouting System:

After a scout has seen a player, they will usually contact them and invite them to a trial day, otherwise the more common method of finding talents from all over are through football trial days and football camps. FootieBugs goes an extra mile in making your job easier as a parent and a young footballer. With our focused training sessions, the FootieBugs Academy will try it’s best to match your ability with a club who will nurture your talent . We will shape a football player into a footballer, by working on improving the child’s overall game and their image to scouts at Premier League Clubs.

This is where the FootieBugs Academy thrives, not only will FootieBugs look to put players forward to Chelsea when they feel they are ready, but FootieBugs will also ensure Chelsea will be fully aware of what training each player will have received from the FootieBugs Academy and why the player has shown enough (Footballing skill as well as dedication and attitude) to be worthy of a trial.
