The Leicester Academy:

The real success at Leicester City lies in the academy side, when fans around the world thought Leicester’s top-flight success had never been done before, they were actually mistaken as the Under-18’s won the Premier Academy League way back in 2007! Some could argue that it wasn’t as unlikely however still an achievement never-the-less. Having graced some clinical goal-scorers in the game such as Gary Lineker and Emile Heskey to name a few, FootieBugs feels that this proves that players who are scouted by Leicester can go on to do great things.

Leicester City academy squad are currently in the top flight league, the “Premier League 2”. This means that any player studying and playing at Leicester will be truly tested, as a result improving their all-round game. Leicester play with a competitive, attacking style of play that shows in their game, and with an attendance over 1,000 people at the academy matches, there is now a small following being built for the young players to look forward to.

In the famous 2015/16 season, outsiders Leicester were estimated at 5000-1 for winning the PL title, defying all odds they managed to beat everyone in their way showing that money doesn’t always buy success.

Academy Staff:

Trevor Peake, current assistant academy director at Leicester is a big name in the coaching side of football. Having worked alongside Gordon Strachan at Coventry City (who personally asked for his assistance) and then transferring to Leicester City in 2003, he is a man that’s seen it all when it comes to management. Peake is currently in charge of the Under- 17’s and Under – 18’s showing his versatility when it comes to training the youth squads at the highest level.
Under-23’s Assistant Coach Ben Petty joined Leicester at a crucial time in 2016 and helped shape the club’s fight back into premier league success. After achieving such heights as winning the league in 2015/16, Petty had to regain some confidence in the upcoming Leicester players and fill some gaps in the squad and is looking for talent constantly.

How to get noticed by a scout

Generally, premier league clubs are closely following open trials as a way of pinpointing the newest talent, as well as having a vast network of scouts across the UK. Scouts are often preferential over structured leagues or with players of a high standard, playing together. This is one thing that FootieBugs academy can offer through our weekly training sessions and games against local teams managed by professional coaches. Because we cover a range of age groups at U6’s-U14’s we have a high demand for young upcoming talent and receive frequent scouts visiting our training sessions and matches. Due to the professional coaches we have available that have all played at a high level, we are able to distinguish which players are leagues above in terms of skill and can refer them onto Premier League clubs.

“If you’re good enough, generally they’ll find you.”

Leicester City Academy Scouting System

After a scout has seen a player, they will usually contact them and invite them to a trial day, otherwise the more common method of finding talents from all over are through football trial days and football camps. FootieBugs goes an extra mile in making your job easier as a parent and a young footballer. With our focused training sessions, the FootieBugs Academy will try it’s best to match your ability with a club who will nurture your talent . We will shape a football player into a footballer, by working on improving the child’s overall game and their image to scouts at Premier League Clubs.

This is where the FootieBugs Academy thrives, not only will FootieBugs look to put players forward to Leicester City when they feel they are ready, but FootieBugs will also ensure that Leicester will be fully aware of what training each player will have received from the FootieBugs Academy and why the player has shown enough (Footballing skill as well as dedication and attitude) to be worthy of a trial.
