The Manchester City Academy:
With a huge investment of cash from new owners “the Sheik Mansour family”, Man City have began to network their brand across the world, growing a bigger fan-base by the minute. One thing an academy graduate is guaranteed at Man City, is a chance to be part of an exclusive club with leading facilities and a chance to play in the most competitive league in the world.
The Manchester City Academy has also improved the overall appearance of the area and made it into a tourist attraction, after it was built on a brownfield site in Greater Manchester. After Man City were crowned champions of the 2017/18 season, this will likely see a transformation in the calibre of the academy squad and double the standards of football. So, if a young player is looking to join the club, now is the best time.
Did you know?
In 2004/05 season, City manager Stuart Pearce was short of options on the bench and decided to play goalkeeper David James up front and a comedic turn of events. He had just one chance outside of the box but missed the ball completely. This is a warning for all goalkeepers, you may be called on at some point, so be ready.
Academy Status: Manchester City are a category 1 status academy
Academy Staff:
Former Blackburn Rovers and England International Jason Wilcox was appointed interim Academy Director upon Pep Guardiola’s arrival last year. Having played for his country, Wilcox is able to make the transition from league to national football and can give the players the hands-on experience they need to go one step further in their sporting career. Let’s not forget the caretaking and coaching staff that Pep Guardiola adopted from his Barcelona side in 2015, who already seem to be taking effect as they are Premier league leaders in both senior and ladies football. | ![]() |
First team coach Pep Guardiola brought in a winning mentality to the blue side of Manchester which was always missing. After going through more than 5 managers in the past 10 years, there is finally some certainty over the Spanish boss and fans believe that he is the real deal. Joining Man city is a great opportunity to play with some of the best players in the world currently, and under one of the best managers. However this is no easy task and with very few academy players breaking into the first team, they need someone who will consistently perform at the high level and a player that has been overcome challenges from an early age, which is what FootieBugs can offer to aspiring professional footballers.

How to get noticed by a scout
Generally, premier league clubs are closely following open trials as a way of pinpointing the newest talent, as well as having a vast network of scouts across the UK. Scouts are often preferential over structured leagues or with players of a high standard, playing together. This is one thing that FootieBugs academy can offer through our weekly training sessions and games against local teams managed by professional coaches. Because we cover a range of age groups at U6’s-U14’s we have a high demand for young upcoming talent and receive frequent scouts visiting our training sessions and matches. Due to the professional coaches we have available that have all played at a high level, we are able to distinguish which players are leagues above in terms of skill and can refer them onto Premier League clubs.
“If you’re good enough, generally they’ll find you.”
Manchester City Academy Scouting System:
This is where the FootieBugs Academy thrives, not only will FootieBugs look to put players forward to Man City when they feel they are ready, but FootieBugs will also ensure Man City will be fully aware of what training each player will have received from the FootieBugs Academy and why the player has shown enough (Footballing skill as well as dedication and attitude) to be worthy of a trial.
If you feel your child shows promise and would like us to help them reach the level for us to recommend them to the Manchester City scouting network then please complete the following form:
