The Swansea Academy:

There’s no excuse for players at the youth academy in south wales. With a plush training complex and team classes on campus, it’s made as simple as possible by the club, and when the players aren’t involved in a training session they are spoilt for choice. With two flood-lit grass pitches, full-size 3G pitch and “goalkeeper training area”, strength and conditioning gym and aerobics studio. Swansea have it all laid out for the players to dictate their own future at the club.

The Swansea academy can whole-heartedly confirm that all graduates from their academy squad will get a chance to play for the first team at some point in a professional competition. Currently, all the welsh graduates playing for Swansea have represented their country on international duty. Some have done notably well, for example Joe Allen helped Wales advance through to the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup whilst only being 20 years old which is the maturity he learnt through the Swansea academy.

Did you know?

After scoring 37 goals in just 36 games for Vitesse, Wilfried Bony was signed by Swansea in 2015/16 season for a record signing of £12 million. In his first season who was Swansea’s top goal-scorer across all competitions and sold on for a profit to Manchester City in the following season. Some of the more impressive work by the Swansea scouts.

Swansea Academy Staff:

David Leadbeater is the current chief scout and head of the recruitment team. He has had mixed success during his spell as chief scout but ultimately has improved the team all-round with signings such as Alfie Mawson who is looking to be a top centre-back and their top scorer Jordan Ayew it’s hard to question his big decisions as they have brought some success to them and kept the fans happy which is very positive for the coaching staff.

How to get noticed by a scout

Generally, premier league clubs are closely following open trials as a way of pinpointing the newest talent, as well as having a vast network of scouts across the UK. Scouts are often preferential over structured leagues or with players of a high standard, playing together. This is one thing that FootieBugs academy can offer through our weekly training sessions and games against local teams managed by professional coaches. Because we cover a range of age groups at U6’s-U14’s we have a high demand for young upcoming talent and receive frequent scouts visiting our training sessions and matches. Due to the professional coaches we have available that have all played at a high level, we are able to distinguish which players are leagues above in terms of skill and can refer them onto Premier League clubs.

“If you’re good enough, generally they’ll find you.”

Swansea Academy Scouting System:

After a scout has seen a player, they will usually contact them and invite them to a trial day, otherwise the more common method of finding talents from all over are through football trial days and football camps. FootieBugs goes an extra mile in making your job easier as a parent and a young footballer. With our focused training sessions, the FootieBugs Academy will try it’s best to match your ability with a club who will nurture your talent . We will shape a football player into a footballer, by working on improving the child’s overall game and their image to scouts at Premier League Clubs.

This is where the FootieBugs Academy thrives, not only will FootieBugs look to put players forward to Swansea when they feel they are ready, but FootieBugs will also ensure Swansea will be fully aware of what training each player will have received from the FootieBugs Academy and why the player has shown enough (Footballing skill as well as dedication and attitude) to be worthy of a trial.
