The West Brom Academy:

All of the trials and programs are completely free at West Brom, this is to encourage home-grown talent to show itself. West Brom believe everyone should have the same chance, especially if they are stars that never surface. Past graduates include Saido Berahino and Jonathon Leko who both have started a number of games this season and can easily cope of the big stage. With a million-pound training complex, anyone can do well at West Brom if they put the work in.

West Brom recently took part in the Coppa Santa Cup in Spain, whilst taking a tour of the what European football has to offer. Academy Leader Neil Parker said,

“Our students have been first class in the way they have conducted themselves on and off the pitch, they really embraced the culture in Spain, doing both Sandwell College and The Albion Foundation proud.”

This is just an insider into what life can be like as an aspiring Under-19 player and can give these players unparalleled opportunities with no limits.

As the West Brom academy have already had a number of hand-picked players from around the Solihull area this year it shows that there is a keen interest for talent close to home and a high chance that scouts may pop-up in FootieBugs academy training sessions.

Did you know?

West Brom are the only team ever to survive relegation from the Premier League whilst being bottom of the league table on the last day of the season. They haven’t been relegated since, which is an incredible achievement itself.

West Brom Academy Staff:

Mark Harrison, Academy Manager is constantly looking for new talent to break through the ranks and isn’t afraid to push the seniors aside if he feels the players are ready. Having already sent 16 of the best academy players out on loan to League One and League Two, he feels that this is the best way to progress the players and those who shine at lower clubs will be good enough to keep and take through to the first team.
Under 18’s development coach James Smith finally got his well-earned chance at coaching the under-18’s side after being with the club for six years. After working with the West Brom under 12’s to under 16’s throughout his time at the club, he said that he is finally ready to tackle this bigger project and believes there is “a good feeling around the camp“.

How to get noticed by a scout

Generally, premier league clubs are closely following open trials as a way of pinpointing the newest talent, as well as having a vast network of scouts across the UK. Scouts are often preferential over structured leagues or with players of a high standard, playing together. This is one thing that FootieBugs academy can offer through our weekly training sessions and games against local teams managed by professional coaches. Because we cover a range of age groups at U6’s-U14’s we have a high demand for young upcoming talent and receive frequent scouts visiting our training sessions and matches. Due to the professional coaches we have available that have all played at a high level, we are able to distinguish which players are leagues above in terms of skill and can refer them onto Premier League clubs.

“If you’re good enough, generally they’ll find you.”

West Brom Academy Scouting System:

After a scout has seen a player, they will usually contact them and invite them to a trial day, otherwise the more common method of finding talents from all over are through football trial days and football camps. FootieBugs goes an extra mile in making your job easier as a parent and a young footballer. With our focused training sessions, the FootieBugs Academy will try it’s best to match your ability with a club who will nurture your talent . We will shape a football player into a footballer, by working on improving the child’s overall game and their image to scouts at Premier League Clubs.

This is where the FootieBugs Academy thrives, not only will FootieBugs look to put players forward to West Brom when they feel they are ready, but FootieBugs will also ensure West Brom will be fully aware of what training each player will have received from the FootieBugs Academy and why the player has shown enough (Footballing skill as well as dedication and attitude) to be worthy of a trial.
