The West Ham Academy:

West Ham regularly have trials opening up and this Easter have even extended a competition for the under-14’s from across the world. With teams as far as Japan (Kashiwa Reysol). Some other big names include Leicester City, Vancouver Whitecaps, Willem II and a number of others. The young players will compete in what’s called the “West Ham Football Cup”. This will give awareness to big talents in obscure leagues and will hopefully unveil some future prospects. Our Academy try to do the same and so our games are often arranged with teams outside of west midlands to challenge the young players and give the feel of a “real club” environment.

West Ham have a long history of football behind their name, and some big names spring to mind. To name of a few, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand and Bobby Moore have all lifted trophies and experience the apex of the sport during their professional careers. These players all started from playing within a structured academy system, which is why we do the same and try to bring up the next big player.

Did you know?

Frank Lampard’s dad, Frank Lampard Senior was a long serving player at West Ham too, with over 500 apps. He is also related to famous manager Harry Redknapp making them extended cousins.

Academy Staff:

Tony Carr, the current Academy Director has been in the football business for 38 years and is slowly turning the club into top four contenders. Having already coached seven current England international player and being an ex-player himself, he has constantly been surrounded by role-models and is now the first point of contact for a young player trying to crack into first team football.
West ham academy manager Terry Westley signed a three-year deal in 2017 and is looking for promotion. Westley recently spoke out about the club and said that he wants to get more young players into the first team, as the current squad is predominantly oversees signings. We too believe that there should be a healthy mix of academy recruits and strong signings as the premier league has proved this is the best way to win titles and silverware.

How to get noticed by a scout

Generally, premier league clubs are closely following open trials as a way of pinpointing the newest talent, as well as having a vast network of scouts across the UK. Scouts are often preferential over structured leagues or with players of a high standard, playing together. This is one thing that FootieBugs academy can offer through our weekly training sessions and games against local teams managed by professional coaches. Because we cover a range of age groups at U6’s-U14’s we have a high demand for young upcoming talent and receive frequent scouts visiting our training sessions and matches. Due to the professional coaches we have available that have all played at a high level, we are able to distinguish which players are leagues above in terms of skill and can refer them onto Premier League clubs.

“If you’re good enough, generally they’ll find you.”

West Ham Academy Scouting System:

After a scout has seen a player, they will usually contact them and invite them to a trial day, otherwise the more common method of finding talents from all over are through football trial days and football camps. FootieBugs goes the extra mile in making your job easier as a parent and a young footballer. With our focused training sessions, the FootieBugs Academy will try it’s best to match your ability with a club who will nurture your talent . We will shape a football player into a footballer, by working on improving the child’s overall game and their image to scouts at Premier League Clubs.

This is where the FootieBugs Academy thrives, not only will FootieBugs look to put players forward to West Ham when they feel they are ready, but FootieBugs will also ensure West Ham will be fully aware of what training each player will have received from the FootieBugs Academy and why the player has shown enough (Footballing skill as well as dedication and attitude) to be worthy of a trial.
