Club Legends and Little Legends Cup 2014

The inaugural Club Legends Cup took place on Saturday 12th July at the LG Arena to raise money for Birmingham blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia.

FootieBugs warmed up the event with the Little Legends Cup, which saw 6 midlands teams (made up from schools across the midlands) competing for the winning cup, with each team playing 2 matches in the group stages.

The four teams that went through to the Semi-finals were:
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Birmingham City
Coventry City
Walsall

A particular highlight from the group stages was the Birmingham City goalkeeper who with an amazing defence of a diving header cleared the ball off the line to get Birmingham into the semi finals!

The losing semi-finalists were Walsall and Birmingham City meaning Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City went through to contest the final!

The final was a very close affair and had to be decided by a penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 score line in normal time. Coventry City held their nerve to claim victory for the Sky Blues!

All children received a medal and the winning cup was presented to Coventry City by Birmingham City Ladies Captain Karen Carney and Lee Hendrie.

We would like to say a big well done to all the children that took part and a special thank you to the managers and Chris Smith.

The Ladies Legends tournament saw Wolves play against Coventry City with Wolves ladies taking the trophy at the end of the match.

The Club Legends Cup final was very close with Birmingham City defeating West Bromwich Albion on penalties. The Club Legends Cup was a massive success as 3500 Midlands football fans flocked to the LG Arena on the 12th July to watch their football heroes in support of Cure Leukaemia.
